Meet Brittan

Production Accountant

Brittan has worked in television and film production finance for more than 25 years. He grew up in New York and attended college at Drexel University. Brittan began his career as an intern, then a production assistant and worked his way up through a wide range of positions until he found a home in production finance. He started as a 2nd and payroll accountant, moved up to 1st accountant, then took over and ran the entire production finance department for a small studio. Among the many projects on which he has worked are “Pinocchio,” “Fraggle Rock,” “Dark Crystal,” “Dinosaur Train,” “Harriet the Spy,” “Earth to Ned,” “Happy Time Murders,” “Slumberkins” and “Word Party.”

What was your favorite project and why? “Pinocchio” – it was a feature I first budgeted in 2008 and took over 15 years to actually get the movie made. To watch it all come together the way it did, and for it to come out the way it did and be received the way it was, was definitely one of the highlights of my career.

What is the best part of being a production accountant? Working with a talented team of production staff to make the best shows or movies you can for the budget you have. Finding ways to save money, to put that money onto the screen to make for an even better product. Forecasting and cost reporting on current projects to keep everyone up-to-date and budgeting out the next projects to begin to build the next project.

What advice would you give someone starting out in the profession? Take your time in your work, enjoy the work you do and enjoy working with the talented people you will get to work with. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and never be afraid to speak up.
